Rules of the Coin Check
A coin check consists of a challenge and a response.
1. Rules:
a. The challenge is initiated by drawing your coin, holding it in the air, and verbally acknowledging the coin check. Alternatively, you can place it firmly on a surface to make an audible sound. Accidentally dropping your coin and making a sound also initiates a coin check, known as paying the price for improper care of your coin.
b. The response requires all challenged individuals to draw their coin in a similar manner. Only coins with your unit’s logo are valid.
c. If you are challenged and cannot respond correctly, you must buy a round of drinks for the challenger and the group being challenged.
d. If everyone responds correctly, the challenger must buy a round of drinks for all those challenged.
e. Failure to buy a round is a serious offense and requires turning in your coin to the issuing agency.
2. Coin checks can happen anytime, anywhere.
3. No exceptions to the rules:
The rules apply regardless of clothing. You are allowed one step and an arm’s reach to locate your coin. If you cannot reach it, you lose the challenge.
4. Definition of a Coin:
A coin is defined as a standalone item. Coins on belt buckles are considered belt buckles. Coins on key chains are considered key chains. Coins in holders worn as necklaces are valid and considered coins.
